If you have been looking for a stain-resistant linen tablecloth that looks nothing like a “practical” tablecloth — a real botanical watercolour, not a compromise — the Ibisco coated linen is what you are looking for. It brings the same summer garden as our natural linen version to the everyday table: great white hibiscus with dark hearts, blue irises, green and white hydrangeas, branches of red and black berries, wisteria and bellflowers — an allover botanical interweaving in watercolour, covering the entire surface with the generosity of an English garden in July. The multicolour palette — white, green, blue, berry red — is held in balance by the watercolour brushwork and the natural linen ground: rich without ever being heavy.

The allover design has no direction and no centre: lay it on the table and it works, in any orientation.

As with all natural linen products, small fibre irregularities may be visible — slubs, weave variations, slight differences in thread thickness. These are not flaws: they are the signature of natural fabric, and part of what gives the cloth its character.

The stain-resistant coating is the difference that changes daily use: the fabric is protected by a finish that prevents liquids from penetrating the fibre. Spilled wine, oil, sauce — everything stays on the surface and wipes away with a damp cloth, leaving no trace. The tablecloth does not need washing after every use: occasional washes are enough, and frequent ironing becomes a memory.

It is the solution for the real everyday table: families with children, garden and terrace lunches, informal dinners where you want a beautiful table without the anxiety of the first stain. The linen remains linen — the hand, the texture, the character of the natural fibre are all there beneath the finish — but with a practicality that natural linen cannot offer.

The fabric is by Tessitura Toscana Telerie, with a width of 170 cm (66″): achievable sizes are therefore smaller than the natural linen version (which reaches 290 cm / 114″ in width). Online we offer the coated tablecloth in standard sizes, together with the coordinated coated placemats in the same fabric.

The coated Ibisco is designed for the contexts where a tablecloth truly works: the kitchen table, Sunday lunch with children, the outdoor summer table — terrace, garden, veranda — where between sun, wind, and food a natural linen cloth would demand constant care. The multicolour design, rich in greens and natural tones, converses with the outdoors particularly well.

And it is a tablecloth that never announces its practicality: set on the table, it is indistinguishable from a fine printed linen. The difference reveals itself only at the first spilled glass.

Because it resolves the oldest conflict of the table: beauty versus practicality. With the coated Ibisco there is no choosing — the watercolour garden and the stain resistance live in the same fabric. For families, for outdoor use, and for frequent everyday service, it is the most rational purchase in our catalogue: fewer washes, no frequent ironing, longer life.

And because those who love the design can have both versions: the natural linen for occasions and large sizes (up to 114″, including round), the coated linen for every day. Same garden, two lives.

The same rules as the natural version: white or ivory ceramics, crystal or coloured glass in the tones of the design, solid linen napkins — white, sage green, or berry red.

For outdoors, the coordinated coated placemats are the natural completion: same practicality, same design, for the informal table.

La Bottega di Casa is an Italian home linen atelier based in Follina (Treviso, Veneto); since 2000, a second store in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, has brought the Italian linen tradition to an international clientele. The coated Ibisco tablecloth is born from the meeting of two excellences: the stain-resistant fabric of Tessitura Toscana Telerie, and La Bottega di Casa finishing in our atelier.

How does the stain-resistant fabric work? The linen is protected by a coated finish that prevents liquids from penetrating the fibre: wine, oil, sauce, and coffee stay on the surface and wipe away with a damp cloth, leaving no marks. The tablecloth does not need washing after every use.

Does coated linen feel plasticky? No. The modern finish preserves the hand and texture of the linen: the tablecloth looks and feels like a fine printed linen. The difference is functional, not aesthetic — it reveals itself only at the first spilled glass.

How do I wash it? For daily use, a damp cloth is enough. When a full wash is needed, machine wash at low temperature on a gentle cycle. Ironing is rarely necessary: coated fabric keeps its composure on its own. Over time and repeated washing the stain-resistant treatment may gradually soften — this is normal for all coated fabrics.

What sizes are available? Standard sizes are available online. The coated fabric is 170 cm (66″) wide, so maximum dimensions are smaller than the natural linen version. For very large or round tables, we recommend the Ibisco in natural linen, which can be made up to 290 cm (114″) wide and round up to 290 cm (114″) in diameter.

Is it suitable for outdoor use? It is one of the best tablecloths in our catalogue for outdoor use: stains do not penetrate, the fabric holds its shape, and the green-rich design converses naturally with garden and terrace. The coordinated coated placemats complete the outdoor table.

Is the same design available in natural linen? Yes — the Ibisco tablecloth in natural linen, same design, on 300 cm (118″) wide fabric: sizes up to 290 cm (114″) wide in any length, and round up to 290 cm (114″) in diameter. Many clients choose both: natural for occasions, coated for every day.
