It is worth explaining how it is made, because that is where the value lies. The photographs on this page show the same tablecloth in three interiors that could not be more different \u2014 and that is exactly the point.<\/p>\n

What is bastoncino hemstitch?<\/strong> It is a traditional openwork technique of fine Italian household linen: the horizontal threads of the fabric are drawn out by hand along a line parallel to the hem, and the remaining vertical threads are gathered into small regular bundles \u2014 the “bastoncini”, little sticks \u2014 by the stitching. The result is the characteristic pierced line that frames the tablecloth. In our Bastoncino, the thread-drawing is entirely manual; the stitching is executed by machine on this handmade preparation.<\/p>\n
