When the weave becomes part of the artwork

The Medusa Jellyfish Tablecloth is a textile that becomes more interesting the closer you look.

From a distance, the artwork immediately draws the eye. An ethereal jellyfish moves across the pale ground in translucent blue-green tones, surrounded by long dark lines that give the composition an almost calligraphic quality.

Created by an artist duo based in Bologna, Italy, the design has a strong graphic identity without feeling heavy. Its sense of movement and restrained palette make this Italian designer tablecloth with artistic print equally at home in contemporary and more traditional interiors.

Yet the artwork is only part of what makes Medusa unusual.[/vc_column_text]

The cloth is woven from 50% linen and 50% cotton, a blend referred to in Italy as mistolino.

L’Arcolaio weaves the surface in jacquard with subtle abstract tone-on-tone motifs. This means that before the jellyfish design is ever printed, the cloth already has its own visual and tactile structure.

The digital artwork is therefore not printed onto an ordinary flat canvas.

Instead, the print settles over a woven surface whose small variations remain visible beneath the image. As light moves across the tablecloth, those variations subtly change the appearance of the artwork.

The result is a quiet sense of depth and dimension.

It is not an embossed or obviously three-dimensional effect. Its sophistication comes from being understated. From across the room, you see the movement of the jellyfish; up close, you begin to notice the jacquard underneath.

This interaction between print and weave is what makes Medusa a particularly distinctive linen cotton jacquard tablecloth with jellyfish print.

The fabric is not simply a background for the image. It becomes part of the image itself.

The making of Medusa brings together several areas of Italian expertise.

The original artwork comes from an artist duo in Bologna. L’Arcolaio produces the jacquard fabric and prints the design, combining textile knowledge with sophisticated digital printing.

The printed cloth is then made into the finished tablecloth by La Bottega di Casa in our Italian workshop.

The finished product carries the La Bottega di Casa brand.

This combination of artwork, weaving, printing and skilled construction is what gives this Italian jellyfish tablecloth made in Italy its character. Its value lies not simply in an unusual image, but in the way each stage contributes to the final textile.

Because the artwork already brings movement to the table, we prefer to keep the rest of the setting relatively restrained.

White or ivory dinnerware, clear glass and simple accessories allow the jellyfish design to remain visible. Solid-color linen napkins are an especially natural pairing.

Cream and gray create a quiet, tonal setting, while Mosto introduces a richer contrasting note.

The 55″ × 55″ square size also offers one of our favorite ways to use table linens: layering.

Place the square Medusa Tablecloth over a larger solid linen tablecloth and use it as a decorative table topper. The solid cloth underneath acts almost like a frame, while the printed square becomes a piece of textile artwork at the center of the table.

These combinations of layered table linens, colors and textures are part of the way La Bottega di Casa approaches table setting. A tablecloth does not always have to be used on its own; layering allows the same linens to take on a different character depending on how they are combined.

The 55″ × 55″ square can also be draped over a smaller round table, allowing the corners to fall naturally.

The 67″ × 106″ rectangular size gives the jellyfish artwork more room to unfold across a dining table.

Pair Medusa with solid linen napkins in Cream, Gray or Mosto.

For a layered table, place the 55″ × 55″ square over a larger solid linen tablecloth to create contrast between the jacquard print, the solid background and the different proportions of the two textiles.

La Bottega di Casa grew from a long family tradition in fine household linens and textiles. In our Italian workshop, we create table and home linen collections using carefully selected fabrics from Italian and European textile makers.

Some pieces begin entirely in our workshop; others begin with an exceptional fabric or collaboration that we believe deserves to become part of our collection.

Medusa is a good example.

The original artwork was created by a Bologna-based artist duo. L’Arcolaio weaves the distinctive linen-cotton jacquard and prints the jellyfish design. La Bottega di Casa then makes the finished tablecloth in Italy, bringing the textile into our own collection under the La Bottega di Casa brand.

We are particularly drawn to textiles where material and design cannot really be separated. Here, the jacquard structure gives the printed artwork a character it would not have on a conventional flat weave.

The way we style these pieces is part of the same philosophy. Tablecloths, base linens and napkins can be layered and combined through color, texture and proportion, allowing the same textiles to create different settings over time.
